Project Overview

Karma Against Ignorance is a decolonial contemplative board game and storytelling experience that transforms Buddhist cosmology into modern spiritual technology. Built to be used solo or in groups, the game offers embodied insights into karmic patterns through storytelling prompts, symbolic iconography, and archetypal tokens drawn in the style of Indigenous Filipino tattoos.

The game is complemented by a digital karmic newsletter offering weekly “Modern Karmic Exercises” — experiential practices that remix mindfulness, critical theory, and daily rituals for personal transformation.

Problem

Mystic systems are beautiful—but often inaccessible.
They're cloaked in esoteric language, divorced from daily life, or flattened into commercialized mindfulness apps. For many, spiritual teachings feel disconnected from the everyday mess of being human: grocery lines, parenting meltdowns, emails left unanswered.

At the same time, we live in a culture addicted to binaries—good vs. bad, right vs. wrong, self vs. other. But mysticism calls us toward nuance, paradox, and wholeness.

Karma Against Ignorance was created to bridge that gap.
It offers a playful but profound way to contextualize mystic systems into lived, embodied practice—not just during rituals or retreats, but in the mundane. The act of pulling a token, telling a story, or receiving a karmic prompt becomes a doorway to insight.

The game doesn’t promise answers.
It invites re-perception.

By approaching objects, stories, and karmic patterns through a six-sided lens (inspired by the six realms of Buddhist cosmology), we break the spell of dualism.
Each token becomes a reminder: the truth is not either/or, but infinite in form.

Karma Against Ignorance is a sacred invitation to see the world—and yourself—through new eyes.

It bridges mysticism and meaning-making by turning Buddhist cosmology and archetypal storytelling into a tangible, living practice. At its core is a physical board game that functions both as a divination tool and a contemplative ritual.

The system includes:

• 48 symbolic tokens (96 total images, front and back), each representing karmic themes, Buddhist realms, and archetypes

• A circle board for gameplay or intuitive spread-based exploration

• A storytelling framework inspired by ritual theater, therapeutic card decks, and ancestral memory

These elements are not meant to be mastered, but explored—again and again—with openness, curiosity, and humility.

Alongside the physical game, a karmic newsletter brings the practice into everyday life with digital contemplative content:

• Modern Karmic Exercises like “The Algorithm of Intention,” remixed for the mundane and the mystical

• Seasonal storytelling rituals aligned with the six realms

• Gentle invitations to reflect, repair, or realign your karmic currency

The foundation of the practice is a six-sided lens—a stand-in for infinite truth. By viewing any object, event, or emotional moment through the six Buddhist realms, we begin to dissolve binary thinking and enter a space of deeper perception.

This is karma not as punishment or reward, but as sacred pattern recognition.
